The Skin & Hormone connection - what you need to know.

Your skin does a lot more than just cover you up. It protects, senses, absorbs, and gives you clues about what’s happening inside. When things are out of balance—like with hormones or stress—it often shows up on your skin. That’s because the skin is closely linked to your blood, the endocrine and nervous system. This makes what you put on it every day really matter! Choosing clean, toxin-free products isn’t just good for your skin, it’s good for your whole system.

Here’s where us women need to pay special attention…

Xenoestrogens

Modern skincare and personal care products frequently contain synthetic chemicals, many of which mimic estrogen, known as xenoestrogens. These are endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) interfere with the delicate balance of hormones in our bodies. The skin’s absorptive capacity means that these chemicals don’t just sit on the surface—they penetrate into the bloodstream, where they influence hormonal health impacting our overall wellbeing.

Impact on Female Reproductive Health

Hormone Health

For women, xenoestrogens are particularly concerning due to their potential to disrupt the natural estrogen balance. This can lead to:

  • Hormonal imbalances, contributing to conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or endometriosis.

  • Irregular menstrual cycles and fertility issues.

  • Increased risk of hormone-sensitive cancers such as breast or ovarian cancer.

Pregnant women should take special care to protect the developing fetus and their grand children! as by around the 20th week of gestation, a female foetus has already formed all the ovarian follicles she will ever have! Amazing, right?

Conscious Choices: The Organic Solution

Supporting your skin and endocrine health starts with mindful decisions about the products you use. In Ayurveda there is a saying: “If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin”.
